HDSI’S Double Challenge:
Building Trust & Choosing Wisely

Building Trust in Practice along with Choosing Wisely™ are two pivotal programs rolled into one exciting UChicago Medicine event. All staff and trainees are encouraged to propose ideas from the frontlines. The goal is improved care, better outcomes, greater efficiency, increased patient and provider satisfaction and better value.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Innovative approaches to improve delivery of health care.

Around the world, the capabilities of modern medicine are being delivered with staggering complexity. Too often this complexity contributes to avoidable harm and unsustainable cost. Moreover, care providers rarely have the support necessary to address preventable harm or deliver value–defined as the best possible care at the lowest possible cost. To help address this gap at UChicago Medicine, HDSI launched an annual Choosing Wisely™ Challenge.

In 2021, the Building Trust Practice Challenge was integrated into the event.

Patient-provider interaction is at the heart of healthcare delivery. Good communication often leads to more patient trust and better overall patient-provider relationships. Evidence shows that patient trust is important for higher patient satisfaction scores. Patients who trust their doctors are more satisfied with the care they receive.

The challenge gives staff and trainees the opportunity to test new approaches to building trust that aim to improve the delivery of health care.

The 2023 themes for UCM’s Building Trust and Choosing Wisely Challenge are:

  • Care transitions
  • Patient education
  • Patient experience
  • Efficiency in care delivery/care transitions
  • Promoting a safe culture

The winners will be announced during the 2023 Quality & Safety Symposium on October 20. Winners receive up to $20,000 worth of mentorship, project management and staff time.
