Systematically Tracking Transfusion of Blood Products at UCM
COVID-19 has increased the need for convalescent plasma, one of the FDA approved therapies for COVID-19. However, there is not a unified location in our EHR that logs the product type, date and time, or volume of transfusion for current or past admissions. Tracking of transfusions is critical to avoid overuse and transfusion complications for patient care, operationally for compliance with joint commission and FDA, and for researchers studying blood product use. This project aims bring together the existing data nurses already input for transfusion into a central location within Epic.
