Does the work incorporate equity?
RESCUE program materials and inhalers were distributed to nearly 80% of public schools in Illinois, prioritized by those with the greatest need. Any student experiencing a respiratory emergency in a participating school could benefit from potentially life-saving medication, supporting education access for disadvantaged populations and reducing burden on groups disproportionately impacted by asthma. Most undesignated inhaler events occurred among Black and Hispanic students, despite them making up proportionally less of Illinois school populations, demonstrating the value of this program in addressing health disparities.
