Ruth Schmidt, MDes

  • Associate Professor of Behavioral Design at IIT Institute of Design

Ruth Schmidt is an associate professor at the Institute of Design (ID) at Illinois Tech whose work sits at the intersection of behavioral science, humanity-centered design, and complex systems. Her research projects and writing focus primarily on combining these disciplines to inform effective and ethical solutions to applied commercial, academic, and public policy challenges, and to develop new tools and conceptual models to help practitioners solve these challenges more systematically. Prior to joining ID as full-time faculty in 2017, Ruth was a senior leader at the innovation consultancy Doblin | Deloitte, where she developed strategic and behavioral design approaches to inform innovation solutions in healthcare and financial services settings, and help clients embed innovation processes more effectively within their organizations.
