About Event:

This inaugural symposium at The University of Chicago aims to explore the spectrum of quality improvement and its impact in pediatrics, spanning the domains of Safe, Timely, Effective, Efficient, Equitable, and Patient-Centered (STEEEP) care.  In addition, speakers are asked to consider the impact QI can play in creating a healthier childhood.  Speakers will use their experience for improvement projects and research to inform the audience of the potential QI growth in pediatrics over the next decade.

Presenters will discuss:

  • Equity and efficiency in care delivery
  • Community care partnerships
  • Value and waste in pediatrics
  • Safety for children with complex care
  • Scholarship innovations

Keynote Speaker:

Colleen Kraft, MD, MBA FAAP is the 2018 President of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Her background includes work in primary care pediatrics, pediatric education, and health care financing. Dr. Kraft received her undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech and her M.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University, and her MBA from the University of Cincinnati. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Kraft led a pediatric accountable care program at Cincinnati Children’s from 2014-2017. Her model incorporated payment to address social determinants of health, high risk care management for children with medical complexity, and improved payment for primary care services. Dr. Kraft’s work in early childhood and population health seeks to translate the goals of health equity into medical practice. As President of the AAP, Dr. Kraft’s focus is in Advancing Child Health through the practice of pediatrics.
